Designing good ab workouts for women need not be complicated, and doesn’t necessarily have to be unduly prescriptive as to the inclusion or exclusion of particular exercises. In fact there are numerous different and enjoyable exercises which can be effective; what is much more important is the overall principles and methods of training which should underpin the workout, no matter what exercises are included. Most fundamental of all is the concept of intensity, because contrary to common belief the abs are no different to any other muscle group, and will respond best to high intensity exercises. As the muscles get stronger, therefore, the key to continued progress is to increase intensity by increasing weight or trying tougher exercises rather than simply increasing the number of reps of an exercise which is now coming easily to you.
